I selected this piece as one of "My Favorites" because I like the darker coloring and the strong metallic luster. Not to mention that the figure is very bold all over this block.
This block was cut from a darker than usual redwood burl, with coloring close to chocolate brown. This is old-growth redwood burl, prized for its exceptional figure and character. The wood displays a striking, metallic-like luster that shifts in tone from light to dark as it catches the light from different angles—creating the illusion of movement beneath the surface.
This block was professionally stabilized by K&G Stabilizing Services, industry leaders in wood stabilization. Their process uses high pressure to fully impregnate the wood fibers with a proprietary resin, which is then cured with heat to form a solid, durable matrix throughout the material. The result is a piece that’s significantly stronger and more stable than untreated wood—resistant to cracking, warping, and discoloration—while allowing you to achieve a smooth, high-gloss finish with ease.
